Solent University entry requirements for Bangladeshi students
Admission requirements are not the same for every applicant. Solent reviews the student’s
qualifications,
grades, subject background and selected course.
Undergraduate entry requirements
According to Solent’s country guidance for Bangladesh, the university may consider a three-year
Bachelor of Arts, Science or Commerce pass degree for undergraduate admission. A Bangladeshi Higher
Secondary Certificate may be considered for entry to a foundation year rather than direct entry to
the first year of a bachelor’s degree.
This means an HSC student should not assume that direct bachelor’s admission is available. The
university must assess the complete academic profile. A portfolio may also be required for many art
and design courses.
Foundation programme entry
A foundation programme helps students prepare for undergraduate study. It normally develops subject
knowledge, academic writing, research skills and English communication. General pathway requirements
may include:
- Completion of 12 or 13 years of education
- An acceptable academic result
- IELTS 5.5 overall with no component below 5.5, or an accepted equivalent
- Meeting the applicable minimum-age condition
The International Foundation Programme and International Year One have separate course structures,
start
dates and fees.
Postgraduate entry requirements
For postgraduate study, Solent looks for a qualification equivalent to a UK bachelor’s degree. Its
current
Bangladesh guidance states that applicants may need a master’s degree in arts, science or commerce.
However,
the final decision depends on the chosen programme and the university’s assessment of the
qualification.
Relevant professional experience may help for some courses, particularly management or specialist
programmes, but it does not automatically replace the academic requirement.
Course-specific requirements
Always review the exact entry requirements shown on the course page before preparing an application.
Additional requirements may apply where a course involves:
- A portfolio
- Professional experience
- Mathematics or science prerequisites
- An interview
- An audition
- Occupational health checks
- A Disclosure and Barring Service check
- Professional registration
- An ATAS certificate
English language requirements
Bangladeshi students normally need to provide acceptable evidence of English ability. Solent accepts
different English language qualifications, but the required score depends on the course and level of
study.
Some programmes may require a higher score than the university’s general minimum.
For degree-level Student visa purposes, applicants should also be aware of UKVI English-language
rules.
Solent notes that university admission requirements and visa requirements are not always identical.
Its general international guidance refers to a minimum of 5.5 in each IELTS component, or an
accepted
equivalent, for degree-level study, although individual courses may set higher conditions. Accepted
evidence
may include:
- IELTS Academic
- IELTS for UKVI
- Pearson PTE Academic
- LanguageCert
- Other qualifications accepted by the university
- An approved pre-sessional English programme
