Its main Southwark campus is at Borough Road, close to Elephant and Castle, while the university also operates a Croydon campus focused mainly on healthcare education.

Why do Bangladeshi students choose LSBU?

LSBU is often considered by Bangladeshi students who want to study in the UK and prefer a central London location. Its Southwark campus is close to major business areas, transport links and several well-known parts of the city, making daily travel and access to central London more convenient. There are other practical reasons too:

  • The main campus is in London Zone 1.
  • Business, computing and engineering courses have practical modules.
  • Several courses include placement or internship routes.
  • Construction, quantity surveying and engineering are established subject areas.
  • Selected master’s courses have September, January and May starts.
  • The university has students from a wide range of countries.
  • International scholarships are available for eligible applicants.
  • University halls are within walking distance of the Southwark campus.
  • Career support includes CV reviews, interview preparation and access to vacancy information.
  • Direct undergraduate and postgraduate entry routes are available for qualified Bangladeshi students.

The location suits students who want city exposure. But it is not for everyone. Living in central London also comes with higher costs. Rent and transport need a realistic budget. It is better to calculate the full cost first.

Why Bangladeshi students choose London South Bank University LSBU

London South Bank University ranking and recognition

LSBU is recognised for practical teaching, graduate outcomes and professionally focused courses. Its overall world ranking is moderate, but several individual subjects perform well in UK league tables.

London South Bank University courses and programmes

LSBU teaches a broad mix of professional and academic subjects. Some programmes are highly practical. Others have professional accreditation, laboratory sessions, live briefs or placement options. These subjects are organised through LSBU’s three colleges. Popular study areas include:

Undergraduate program

Bangladeshi students can apply for bachelor’s degrees after HSC, A Levels, IB or an accepted foundation programme. Available options include Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Law, Biomedical Science and Media. This makes the course longer, but it can provide workplace exposure. Students normally need to apply for positions and meet employer conditions.

Postgraduate program

One-year master’s programmes are common at LSBU. Subjects include International Business Management, Accounting and Finance, International Marketing, Project Management, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Engineering, Construction Management and Public Health. Some business master’s courses also have internship versions.

Research degrees

Research options are available in business, education, engineering, social science, health and other selected areas. An applicant usually needs a suitable academic background and a research proposal. Supervisor availability also matters. Research fees and application procedures are different from taught master’s courses. Do not prepare a PhD application like a normal MSc file.

London South Bank University intakes

September is the main intake. It normally has the widest course choice. January is available for selected postgraduate courses. LSBU has also introduced May starts for a number of business master’s programmes in 2026. For example, International Business Management offers September, January and May routes. The September and May versions are listed as 12 months, while the January version is listed as 15 months.

Intake General availability
September Main undergraduate and postgraduate intake
January Selected postgraduate courses
May Selected business and management master’s courses

Do not assume a course will be open in every intake. Search the exact programme first. Course availability may also close when seats are filled.

Admission requirements for Bangladeshi students

Entry requirements depend on the study level and course. Health, engineering and professionally regulated programmes can ask for specific subjects. Some master’s degrees accept applicants from any discipline. Others do not.

LSBU publishes separate Bangladesh entry guidance, which makes the initial assessment easier.

Foundation entry requirements

A foundation or pathway programme may be suitable when an applicant does not meet direct bachelor’s entry requirements.

LSBU’s Bangladesh guidance lists the Bangladesh Higher Secondary Certificate below the specified direct-entry level as a possible foundation qualification. An International Baccalaureate Certificate may also be considered. Final acceptance depends on the pathway and chosen degree.

Undergraduate entry requirements

For direct undergraduate entry, LSBU currently lists the following general options for Bangladeshi students:

  • Bangladesh HSC with Grade A or CGPA 3.8 out of 5.0 or higher
  • Three GCE A Level passes, with grades depending on the course
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma with at least 24 points
  • Accepted UK foundation programme with around 55% to 60% or higher
  • Accepted UK National Diploma
  • Higher National Diploma for possible advanced or top-up entry

Some degrees require Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry or another specific subject. A strong total CGPA may not be enough when the required HSC subject is missing.

Masters entry requirements

Certain courses ask for a relevant first degree. A small number may also require professional experience. General postgraduate entry guidance for Bangladesh includes:

  • A four or five-year honours degree from a recognised Bangladeshi university
  • CGPA 2.5 out of 4.0 or higher, depending on the university and programme
  • A two-year honours degree followed by a two-year master’s degree, normally with CGPA 2.5 out of 4.0 or higher
  • An international honours degree equivalent to a UK second-class bachelor’s degree

A CGPA of 2.5 does not guarantee an offer. The admissions team can also review the institution, subject match, failed courses, study gap and overall transcript.

Additional course requirements

Read the individual program page. General country requirements are only the starting point. Extra conditions may apply for:

  • Architecture and design portfolios
  • Health-related interviews
  • Nursing or clinical checks
  • Relevant work experience
  • Engineering subject prerequisites
  • Research proposals
  • Professional references
  • Disclosure or background checks
  • Evidence of Mathematics or English qualifications

English language requirements

Most Bangladeshi applicants need accepted proof of English. The required score changes by programme. LSBU’s current general requirements include the following:

English test Undergraduate Postgraduate
IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, no component below 5.5 6.5 overall, no component below 5.5, subject to course
TOEFL iBT 80 overall with specified component scores 90 overall with specified component scores
PTE Academic 59 overall, with 59 in each skill 60 overall, with at least 59 in each skill
Cambridge English 169 overall, no score below 162 180 overall, no score below 162
LanguageCert Academic 65 overall, minimum 60 in each part 70 overall, minimum 60 in each part

These are general figures. Some health, education, law or professional programmes can ask for more. Do not book an English test only after reading a third-party post. Check whether LSBU accepts that test for your exact course and CAS.

Documents required for an LSBU application

Scan every page clearly. Blurred marksheets, cut passport corners, and mismatched spellings create unnecessary questions. A normal application file may include:

  • Valid passport
  • Recent photograph
  • SSC certificate and transcript
  • HSC certificate and transcript
  • Bachelor’s certificate and transcript for postgraduate study
  • Master’s documents, where relevant
  • English language test result
  • Personal statement or statement of purpose
  • Updated CV for postgraduate applications
  • Academic or professional reference
  • Work experience letters
  • Portfolio for creative subjects
  • Research proposal for research applications
  • Study-gap documents
  • Name correction or affidavit documents, where needed

Personal statement (SOP)

The personal statement should explain why the subject fits your background. It should also connect the degree with a reasonable career plan. Avoid copied introductions. Do not write that you selected LSBU only because it is in London. Mention the actual course structure, relevant modules, professional value and your past study or work.

Study gap explanation

A study gap is not always a problem. An unexplained gap is. Provide documents where possible. These may include employment letters, business papers, training certificates, professional courses or family-related evidence. Dates should match the CV and application form.

How to apply to London South Bank University from Bangladesh

International students can normally apply directly to LSBU. The application route can still vary by level and program. Undergraduate applicants may also use UCAS where applicable. A careful application usually follows these steps:

  1. Review your academic profile: Check SSC, HSC, bachelor’s results, English level, study gap and subject background. This helps remove courses for which you are clearly not eligible.
  2. Choose the course and intake: Read the modules. Check whether the programme has a placement, internship, professional accreditation or subject condition. Also confirm whether it starts in September, January or May.
  3. Calculate the real budget: Include tuition, deposit, accommodation, visa fee, health surcharge, TB test, flight and initial living expenses. London costs should not be treated as a small detail.
  4. Prepare the documents: Arrange certificates, transcripts, passport, CV, personal statement and references. Correct name or date mismatches before submission.
  5. Submit the application: Complete the form carefully. Employment dates, academic dates and course information should match the supporting documents.
  6. Receive the decision: LSBU may issue a conditional or unconditional offer. A conditional offer means one or more requirements are still outstanding.
  7. Meet the offer conditions: Submit the final certificate, English result, reference or other requested document. Read every condition. Do not assume payment alone will clear the offer.
  8. Pay the required deposit: LSBU generally requires new international students to pay a deposit equal to 50% of their tuition fees before a CAS is issued, although some exceptions may apply.
  9. Complete CAS checks: The university may ask for financial documents, immigration history or another credibility-related check before issuing the CAS.
  10. Apply for the UK Student visa: Use the information exactly as shown on the CAS. Prepare the bank documents, TB certificate and other required papers.
  11. Arrange accommodation and travel: Confirm accommodation before flying. Keep enough money for food, transport and basic purchases during the first few weeks.
Note: A university application looks easy until a document does not match. Sangen Edu Ltd can review your profile, help shortlist the course and organise the admission steps from Bangladesh.

LSBU tuition fees for international students

The fee depends on the course and route. Internship, placement, laboratory and specialist programmes may cost more. Fees can increase in later academic years. Field trips, equipment, professional checks and placement-related costs may also sit outside the main tuition fee.

*The BDT figures use a simple planning rate of £1 = BDT 165. This is not a live bank rate.

Study route International tuition fee Estimated BDT*
Undergraduate Biomedical Science £17,400 per year Around BDT 28.71 lakh
Computer Science top-up £17,880 Around BDT 29.50 lakh
Standard taught master’s £18,900 Around BDT 31.19 lakh
Master’s with internship £20,160 Around BDT 33.26 lakh
Full-time PhD £18,200 per year Around BDT 30.03 lakh

The Biomedical Science course lists £17,400 for 2026/27. International Business Management and several standard business master’s routes list £18,900. Project Management with Internship is listed at £20,160. Fees vary, so these figures should be used as examples rather than one fixed LSBU price.

LSBU scholarships for Bangladeshi students

LSBU has committed more than £1 million to its international scholarship scheme. Bangladeshi students may be considered for general international awards when they meet the conditions. Below are some of the best UK scholarships for Bangladeshi students available at LSBU.

Vice-Chancellor’s International Merit Award

This award is for eligible undergraduate students with strong school results. It provides a £2,000 tuition discount for each academic year. LSBU states that applicants normally need grades equivalent to AAB at UK A Level, roughly comparable to 75% or above in other recognised school-leaving qualifications. Other conditions apply.

Global Success Scholarship

The Global Success Scholarship provides awards of up to £4,000. It is available across selected undergraduate and postgraduate subjects and normally applies to the first year. Applicants need to accept the offer and pay the required early deposit within the stated deadline. The final award can vary by subject.

Pathway and partner awards

A £5,000 first-year award may be available to students progressing from an eligible LSBU pathway delivered through Cambridge Education Group. Other partner-based awards have separate eligibility rules.

These are not open to every applicant. A student applying directly from a Bangladeshi institution should not assume they qualify.

Scholarship application tips

A scholarship reduces part of the cost. It does not remove the need to prepare the remaining tuition and visa funds.

  • Apply before the intake becomes crowded.
  • Keep academic documents complete.
  • Meet the offer conditions quickly.
  • Check the deposit deadline.
  • Write an original personal statement.
  • Do not claim work or achievements you cannot prove.
  • Read whether two scholarships can be combined.
  • Ask for written confirmation of the final fee.

Student life and campus facilities

The Southwark campus is close to Elephant and Castle station. Students can reach many parts of London by Underground, bus or train. The area has supermarkets, cafés, restaurants and everyday services used by students.

LSBU says it has invested more than £65 million in teaching and social spaces. The LSBU Hub opened in 2022 and includes a library, group-study areas, quiet study spaces, cafés and an on-campus gym. Campus facilities include:

  • Library and individual study spaces
  • Group work rooms
  • Computer and technology facilities
  • Engineering laboratories
  • Health and science laboratories
  • Bloomberg and business software access on selected courses
  • Careers and employability services
  • Student support
  • Students’ union activities
  • Gym and wellbeing facilities
  • Food and social spaces

LSBU has also highlighted cultural and religious support within its international community. A recent international-student feature mentioned a dedicated prayer room along with Eid and Ramadan activities. This can be a useful detail for Bangladeshi Muslim students adjusting to campus life.

LSBU student accommodation

The university currently describes two halls with more than 900 single rooms. Both are within about a ten-minute walk of the Southwark campus.

Utility bills, Wi-Fi and gym access are included in the university hall rent. LSBU’s Bangladesh information page advertises accommodation starting from around £175 per week, although room type and yearly price can change.

Apply for a room after receiving an offer. Do not leave accommodation until the final week. Private rooms near central London can be expensive, and cheap online listings are not always genuine.

Estimated living costs in London

London is more expensive than many other UK cities. A student who cooks regularly and lives in university accommodation may spend less than someone renting a private studio. Students living close to campus may save on transport. Private rent, frequent takeaway meals and travel across London will increase the budget.

The table below is a practical planning estimate:

Monthly expense Estimated cost
Accommodation £760 to £1,300
Food and groceries £180 to £320
Local transport £80 to £180
Mobile phone £15 to £35
Study and personal costs £100 to £250
Estimated monthly total £1,135 to £2,085

For visa purposes, the UK government currently requires students studying in London to show £1,529 per month for up to nine months. That comes to £13,761, in addition to unpaid tuition fees shown on the CAS.

UK student visa requirements from Bangladesh

Bangladeshi nationals generally need a UK student visa to study a full degree at LSBU. Common requirements include:

  • Money held for too few days

  • Unpaid tuition calculated incorrectly
  • An unacceptable bank or account type
  • Missing relationship evidence for parental funds

Studying at London South Bank University from Bangladesh can raise questions about entry requirements, tuition fees, scholarships, available intakes and the UK student visa. The FAQs below cover the main details Bangladeshi applicants should check before applying.

LSBU can be a suitable option for Bangladeshi students who want to study in central London and prefer practical, career-related courses. It has strong subject options in business, computing, engineering, construction, health and social work. Students should still compare tuition, accommodation and course content before applying.
