The university was founded in 1953 as Zhejiang Chinese Medicine College of Technology.
It is among the first batch of universities in the country to recruit and train graduate students of traditional Chinese medicine and is among the first batch of colleges and universities affiliated to Zhejiang Province to be granted the right to confer doctoral degrees and post-doctoral research mobile stations.
