Chung Yuan Christian University was founded in 1953 located in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. The university was formed by a group of Christian educators with a motto of introducing an engineering and agricultural college in Taiwan in Christian spirit.
In 1955 after several names changes 1955 the university got its approval from the Ministry of Education and became Chung Yuan Christian College of Science and Engineering. And finally, in 1980 it was renamed Chung Yuan Christian University. In the beginning, the university started its journey with only 4 colleges. Through years of development and support of its presidents, trustees made the university soar high in status and performance.
The University currently has over 16,000 students enrolled in its 7 schools and colleges, such as the College of Science, Business, Design, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Science, Humanities and Education, and the School of Law. It offers students 40 graduate programs, 13 Ph.D. programs in 29 departments. The university has successfully developed 120,000 alumni over time.
